WIDENING HORIZONS
As part of the ‘Widening Horizons Project’ with The British Council, three Birmingham special schools have completed a teacher exchange between schools in Jamaica and Birmingham. The project aims to secure sustainable links with our partner schools for years to come. Selly Oak is partnered with Randolph Lopez School of Hope in Kingston and in November their Principal, Sylvestina Reid, spent a week at Selly Oak taking part in teacher training, observing lessons and discussing professional development with staff and talking with students about life in a Jamaican special school.
“Selly Oak is a really incredible school where it is obvious that students are at the heart. Our two schools are so alike in many ways and I know the excellent practice I have seen at Selly Oak will benefit our students back home. We are looking forward to keeping in touch with our pen pals and sharing an online gallery space to exhibit art work from Selly Oak and Randolph Lopez side by side!” Sylvestina Reid, Principal, Randolph Lopez School of Hope
